"My calendar is full this week…and next. I love that, but honestly it also gives me a little anxiety too (remember, we can be two things at once). My time has been my own for so long. I've spent a lot of energy to get it that way over the past few years; I've set boundaries, made appointments with myself, given myself the space I need to serve the people and responsibilities that need me on the highest level."
"After years of navigating confusing relationships, my siblings and I have all taken the responsibility to care for ourselves first which, in turn, has allowed us to repair and reinvent a relationship all of us only dreamed of. As we age, we're acutely aware of how important it will be to have honest conversations, be open and authentic and stay aligned with our own values while we're sandwiched in the middle of maturing children and our aging parents. "
"Over the years, one thing that has transformed my mornings from chaotic (and hungover) to calm and rested is the simple power of routine. Establishing a rhythm in my daily life has helped me focus on what truly matters and stay grounded, even when life feels anything but predictable. It hasn’t always been this way, though."
"I'm better. Ish.
Last week was better than the one before, but I am still itching my body quite aggressively. It will be two weeks today since the poison ivy incident of 2024 and because of that, I will no longer be discussing it. The event is dead to me.
In other news, I celebrated my three year ‘soberversary’ on Friday with a tattoo of barn swallows; one for each year, leaving room to add more. You can see more here if that's your thing. "
"The first photo in the upper left corner was me last Tuesday morning while I waited to get in to the doctor. Remember all of that wooded area we cleaned out? Apparently the vines, ahem, ivy, I pulled off the trees with my bare hands were poisonous and this old gal's bod did not love it. I had a wicked reaction, which I've never had allergies or a reaction to anything so imagine my surprise when I woke up on Tuesday looking like this.. "
"I feel about 98 right now. Not only did we decide to clean out an entire area of woods and weeds that has been neglected for coming up on 10 years, I also intended to spend 15 minutes on a few courses that needed catching up on.
Ahem, 15 minutes turned in to 15 hours.
I wish I was kidding. "
"A lot can happen in just one week.
In case you missed it, one of our businesses, The Creekside Scoop, sustained extensive water damage last Monday night in a wicked storm that came through Cross Plains. Here's the scoop: the roof of the building (which we also own) was damaged in a storm just over a month ago and required a full replacement which was scheduled to start…wait for it…Tuesday. "
"It's Money Monday!
My new year's resolution this year was simply to pay attention to my money and develop a relationship with it.
Not: Get out of debt.
Not: Make $100k.
Not: Financial Freedom.
Simply to pay more attention to it."
And voila! Eight months in I am more than halfway to all of those things…by simply reframing my thoughts around money.
