New Year, Real Me, But with a Better Planner

sliced fruit on white surface

Let’s get one thing straight: I’m not interested in “New Year, New Me.”

Real me? Yes.

So much pressure.

There’s so much pressure every January to reinvent ourselves, as if the person we were in December wasn’t good enough. Spoiler alert: YOU ARE ENOUGH. The real challenge isn’t becoming someone else—it’s figuring out how to make the amazing you work a little smarter, not harder.

This year, I’m committing to this planner like it’s my morning coffee—completely essential and non-negotiable. No giving it up by February, no half-hearted scribbles on random pages, and no using it as a glorified napkin for grocery lists (okay, maybe a few doodles—I’m not a robot).

Look, I’m a planner junkie. Give me all the pretty covers, the promises of an organized life, and the stickers for “gold star” rewards, and I’m in. I’ve bought planners that looked like they belonged in a museum, planners with glittery covers that screamed “I’ve got my life together,” and planners so jam-packed with features they basically required a user manual. If a planner could whisper sweet nothings about productivity in my ear, I’d probably buy that one too.

But here’s the thing…

I’ve tried them all. And while I love the thrill of a fresh planner and the sheer potential it holds (oh, the goals I will accomplish!), most of them end up abandoned by mid-February, stuffed into a drawer alongside my lost hopes for a perfectly color-coded life.

Not last year. Last year, my friend Kensey got me the Commit30 planner, and let me tell you—it was nothing short of a goddamn miracle. I actually finished it. Like, fully used it from January to December. No planner graveyard drawer, no sad stack of forgotten to-do lists, and no guilt about the 80 blank pages I usually leave behind. I wrote in it, planned in it, and—dare I say—thrived with it.

I don’t know if Kensey had insider intel on my chaotic life or if she just saw “planner junkie in recovery” written all over me, but this thing clicked. The Commit30 planner didn’t just look pretty sitting on my desk (although, let’s be real, that is a bonus); it actually made sense for my life. It’s goal-oriented without being overwhelming, simple to use, and—thankfully—totally forgiving if I skipped a week (or, fine, maybe a month). It didn’t guilt me into perfection. Instead, it gave me the structure I needed with the flexibility to not hate myself if I scribbled a grocery list in the margins.

And now?

Even though I’m not an affiliate (yet—call me, Commit30!), I am officially a Commit30 lifer. I don’t know what kind of planner sorcery they’ve baked into this thing, but I’m hooked. It’s the perfect balance of inspiration and practicality. Plus, it still gives me that magical “new year, fresh start” feeling every time I open it, without screaming at me to have my entire life together by February.

So, here I am, pen in hand, ready to commit again. Because if something works, you stick with it. And if it helps you cross off more to-dos than “buy stickers,” it’s basically a miracle worker.

What about you? Have you ever actually finished a planner? If not, maybe Kensey needs to send you one of these too. Trust me—it’s life-changing.

So, here’s the deal: I’m showing up for this planner, and it’s showing up for me. Together, we’re going places (even if those places are just Target runs and occasional world domination).

What about you? Are you committing to a planner this year, or just winging it like a rebel? Drop your planner stories—or your best sticker recommendations—in the comments. Let’s make 2025 the year we write things down and actually do them. 🎉

Here’s the thing about goal-setting: it doesn’t have to be dramatic. You don’t need to climb Everest by March or write a novel in a month. (Unless you want to. In which case, go you!)

This year, my goals are simple:

  • Say yes to things that align with my values.
  • Say no without guilt to everything else.
  • Use this dang planner to keep track of it all.

If you’re still looking for “the one,” let me save you some trial and error: the Commit30.com planner has been my ride-or-die for staying organized and focused. Trust me, I’ve tried them all—planners for minimalists, over-thinkers, artists—you name it. But Commit30 is the only one that’s ever worked for me. It’s like the planner version of that friend who gently reminds you to get your life together but still lets you eat cookies for dinner.

With its goal-oriented focus, space for habits and reflections, and simple, intuitive design, it strikes the perfect balance between structure and flexibility. Whether I’m setting a big goal for the month or just trying to remember what day it is, this planner has me covered. And bonus: it’s gorgeous enough to leave on your desk without shame.

If you take one thing away from this post, let it be this: You don’t have to reinvent yourself to have an amazing year. You just need a plan—or a planner—and the determination to show up as the awesome person you already are.

So, here’s to a new year, same amazing you, and maybe a better way to keep track of it all.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go pencil “stay fabulous” into my January to-do list.

What’s your approach to 2025? Do you go all-in on resolutions, or are you keeping it low-key like me? Drop your planner recommendations (or share your Commit30 wins!) in the comments—I’m all ears.

Cheers to a beautifully imperfect year ahead! 🎉
