The Joyus Mini Bottle Has Solved a Very Specific Problem

I have absolutely no problem drinking an entire bottle of Joyus sparkling non-alcoholic wine by myself.

None.

It’s delicious. It’s bubbly. It feels celebratory. And unlike my former relationship with actual wine, drinking the whole bottle isn’t going to result in me waking up at 3 a.m. with a dry mouth, questionable memories, and an overwhelming sense that I should check my text messages.

There is, however, one problem with drinking an entire bottle of anything in your late 40s.

I do not want to pee all night.

Enter: the Joyus mini bottle.

Apparently someone at Joyus understands that sometimes I want a cute little glass of sparkling rosé on the patio without committing my bladder to an overnight endurance event.

It’s a 187 mL mini bottle, basically a single-serving split, and I would like to personally thank whoever made this decision.

Sometimes I Don’t Need the Whole Bottle

One of the funny things about being alcohol-free is realizing how much of drinking was about the ritual.

The pretty glass.

The bubbles.

Opening something special at the end of the day.

Having a celebratory drink when friends come over.

I still love all of that.

And Joyus has been my favorite non-alcoholic sparkling wine for a long time. I genuinely like the taste, not just in a well, this is pretty good considering there’s no alcohol in it kind of way.

I’d happily drink the whole bottle.

That’s actually the problem.

Sometimes I want one glass.

Not because I’m worried I’ll get drunk. Not because I’m trying to moderate my alcohol intake.

Because I would like to sleep through the night without making three pilgrimages to the bathroom.

Midlife is glamorous.

Whoever Made the Mini: Bless You

This is exactly the kind of thing that ends up in Things I Love.

It’s not revolutionary.

It did not change my life.

It just solved one tiny, incredibly specific annoyance and made something I already loved even easier to enjoy.

A little sparkling rosé.

A cute glass.

No leftover bottle sitting in the refrigerator losing its bubbles.

And considerably less liquid making its way through my 47-year-old bladder at 2 a.m.

Savior.

Welcome to Currently Loving, tiny Joyus.

You have earned your spot.

Living with seasonal affective disorder taught me to stop fighting winter and start planning for it instead. A personal essay on seasonal living and self-trust.

I used to think that if I could just stop drinking, everything would magically fall into place. In many ways, I think that’s how we talk about transformation. We tell ourselves that once we lose the weight, quit drinking, leave the relationship, start therapy, get the diagnosis, or buy the house, we’ll somehow arrive. We’ll […]
